The new 1855coffeehouse.com is open. The vault is, too.
If this page loaded a little faster than you expected, that is because we rebuilt our website from the ground up. Same address, new bones. It felt right. This building got new bones once too, and it has been standing on Brodhead Street since the railroad days.
The new site has the things a coffee house website should have: the menu, the hours (yes, we are open Mondays), and a button that orders you a latte. But we had more fun with the rest of it. There is a page about the building and the town that built it. There is our honest guide to the Driftless, the places we actually go, including a hardware store we will defend with our lives. And scattered through all of it, there are a few things we hid on purpose.
We will not say what they are. We will only say this: old bank buildings reward the curious, and so does this website. If you find the vault, you will know what to do.
Stop in. Stay 5 minutes or 5 hours.
